Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What is Anaerobic Digestion?

Simply put, it is a process by which organic matter such as food waste is broken down to produce biogas, a methane-rich gas that can be used as a fuel (sustainable energy), and digestate (digestate which can be used as a high-quality natural fertiliser). The Government recognises anaerobic Digestion as the most environmentally sustainable way of recycling food waste.
